The land manager lists this site. Someone from the agency inventoried it, so it is a real camp — not a spot we guessed at. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

How we know this — Akers Campground

Fire rules
Campfires are permitted at designated campsites and must be contained in the metal fire ring provided.
Stay limit

Source
public land records
Confidence
Thin — A single weak source put this here. Treat the location itself as unconfirmed, not just the details.
How it was placed
Ozark National Scenic Riverways, developed GROUP campground on the upper Current River -- recreation.gov carries only 4 sites and NPS describes it as "The Akers group sites sit right along the water." FEE: NPS developed-campgrounds page -- summer (Apr 15 - Oct 15) standard non-electric $20, standard electric $30, cluster $45, group $140. Winter (Oct 16 - Apr 14) standard non-electric $10, standard electric $20, cluster $10, group $50. "Developed campsites are available by reservation only" through recreation.gov. STAY LIMIT: "Camping stays are limited to 14 days in a 30-day period in the same campground." (nps.gov/ozar/learn/management/camping-regulations.htm) FIRE: campfires must be in the metal fire ring provided; "During periods of elevated fire danger, open fires may be restricted or prohibited." Fires are prohibited in caves, within 50 ft of cave mouths, and within 50 ft of designated river accesses/landings except during gigging season. ACCESS: recreation.gov -- "20 miles (32 km) south of Salem, Missouri... Turn right on Highway KK for 16 miles (26 km) to Akers Group Campground. The campground is 1/2 mile (.8 km) north of Akers Ferry (junction of Highways K and KK)." NEAREST TOWN: Salem, MO. COORDINATE CAVEAT -- this is why confidence is 'low': the recreation.gov facility point (37.38306, -91.56944) and the NPS Public POIs pin "Akers Ferry Campground" (37.37588, -91.55349) are 1.00 mi apart, and the recreation.gov per-site coordinates for this facility contain outliers. The recreation.gov facility point is used here because NPS's own directions place the campground half a mile NORTH of Akers Ferry, which is the direction of the discrepancy -- but a reviewer should confirm this one on a map before it is published. SOURCE: https://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/developed-campgrounds.htm == NIGHTSHIFT RE-VERIFIED 2026-08-20 (fire 1180, leftover backlog pass 6: TX/TN/MO/SC/VT) == THE CAMPGROUND HOLDS UP; THE COORDINATE DID NOT, AND IT HAS BEEN CORRECTED THIS FIRE. Re-read the Ozark National Scenic Riverways pages on 2026-08-20: https://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/developed-campgrounds.htm and https://www.nps.gov/ozar/planyourvisit/backcountry-campgrounds.htm. Both still carry the fee tables and reservation wording recorded above, verbatim and unchanged. The developed-campgrounds page still names Akers and still says "The Akers group sites sit right along the water." recreation.gov facility 234442 (read 2026-08-20) still gives the directions verbatim: "Akers Campground is 20 miles (32 km) south of Salem, Missouri. From Salem, take Highway 19 south 4 miles (6.4 km). Turn right on Highway KK for 16 miles (26 km) to Akers Group Campground. The campground is 1/2 mile (.8 km) north of Akers Ferry (junction of Highways K and KK)." COORDINATE CORRECTED. The previous fire flagged a 1.00 mi disagreement between the recreation.gov facility point (37.38306, -91.56944 - the value this row carried) and the NPS POI "Akers Ferry Campground" (37.37588, -91.55349), and asked a reviewer to settle it on a map. Settled: BOTH were wrong, and the agency publishes the real answer. (a) I located the Highway K / Highway KK junction - "Akers Ferry" in NPS's directions - from the US Census Bureau TIGERweb road service (https://tigerweb.geo.census.gov/arcgis/rest/services/TIGERweb/Transportation/MapServer/8, "State Hwy K" and "State Hwy Kk" geometries, queried 2026-08-20). They meet at 37.37600, -91.55319. The NPS POI sits 30 m from that junction, i.e. AT the ferry, not half a mile north of it. The old recreation.gov facility point sits 1.02 mi away - 785 m north but also 1,437 m WEST, and not on Highway K at all. Neither matches "1/2 mile north of Akers Ferry". (b) recreation.gov DOES still publish per-site coordinates for this facility (www.recreation.gov/api/camps/campgrounds/234442/campsites, read 2026-08-20): four group tent-only non-electric sites, G01 37.376586/-91.563472, G02 37.375903/-91.563371, G03 37.375618/-91.562202, G04 37.375650/-91.561439. They cluster within about 200 m of each other - a tight, clean, agency-published cluster with no outliers, unlike the spread the earlier fire saw. LAT/LON ON THIS ROW WAS CHANGED THIS FIRE from 37.38306, -91.56944 to 37.375939, -91.562621, the mean of those four sites, which is about 995 m from the old value. This is the only field other than status/reviewer/reviewed_ts/audit_note that fire 1180 altered on any row in this batch. FEE AND RULES unchanged: this is a DEVELOPED GROUP campground, reservation only through recreation.gov or (877) 444-6777; summer (Apr 15 - Oct 15) group $140, cluster $45, standard electric $30, standard non-electric $20; winter (Oct 16 - Apr 14) group $50, cluster $10, standard electric $20, standard non-electric $10; stays limited to 14 days in a 30-day period in the same campground; fires only in the metal ring provided. WATER caveat unchanged - the park lists showers and water pumps across the developed campgrounds as a GROUP but says "each campground has slightly different amenities", and Akers's water is not separately stated, so confirm before relying on it. Never drink the Current River untreated. DECISION: approved with the corrected pin.
