The land manager lists this site. Someone from the agency inventoried it, so it is a real camp — not a spot we guessed at. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

Free National Park Service camping on the Missouri National Recreational River, Cedar County, about 2 miles northeast of Wynot, Nebraska; gravel roads in to a parking lot and trailhead, then you HIKE to the campsites. NPS: "Camping is allowed and free. Camp only in designated sites marked with brown camping signs and metal fire rings." Three designated sites, each with a fire ring, first-come first-served, no reservations. Dispersed camping is permitted only in the Bluffs Unit downriver of Bow Creek, and only from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Dead and down wood may be collected. NO camping fee, but every overnight camper must fill out a free NPS permit.

How we know this — Bow Creek Recreation Area (Missouri NRR)

National Park Service recreation data
Confidence
Agency-confirmed — The managing agency's own record names this as a campsite and puts it at these coordinates. About as good as it gets short of standing here.
How it was placed
Sources, both read 2026-08-17: National Park Service, Missouri National Recreational River camping page, https://www.nps.gov/mnrr/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm ("No camping fees are required but all overnight campers must fill out the FREE permit for your safety"; Bow Creek = 3 designated campsites, fire rings at each, dispersed permitted only in the Bluffs Unit Memorial Day to Labor Day), and the Bow Creek Recreation Area page, https://www.nps.gov/mnrr/planyourvisit/bow-creek-recreation-area.htm. Coordinate is the one the NPS Bow Creek page itself links to on Google Maps (42.7775822, -97.1480978). Sister free NPS sites Goat Island and Green Island are boat-access-only and NPS publishes no coordinate for either, so they are not in this batch. | auto:agency-trust 2026-08-18: state agency GIS record with a source URL and coordinates, confidence not low. Fee value is the agency's own, not field-checked. Not field-verified -- confirm access, road conditions and fire rules before you go. | nightshift-verified 2026-08-18: Both NPS pages re-read today. The camping page still states verbatim: "No camping fees are required but all overnight campers must fill out the FREE permit for your safety." The Bow Creek page still states: "Camp only in designated sites marked with brown camping signs and metal fire rings." NPS camping page last updated 2026-08-03; Bow Creek page last updated 2024-09-23. Free-with-permit status and the designated-site rule both hold.

Field check
On the agency's books. The land manager inventoried this site, so its existence is not in question — current conditions are. Nobody from here has camped it recently.
