The land manager lists this site. Someone from the agency inventoried it, so it is a real camp — not a spot we guessed at. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

FREE camping (donation / 'freewill') at Crystal Park, the City of Miller's park at 300 W 7th Street on the west side of this Hand County town. The first three nights are freewill -- meaning you pay what you wish, and the stay limit is 3 days (72 hours), so your whole allowed stay is free with a donation requested (it only jumps to $30/night beyond three nights, which the stay limit doesn't allow anyway). You get pull-through sites with 20/30-amp electric, water, a dump station, restrooms, level gravel pads and grass, and picnic tables -- a genuinely nice free town stop. Please drop a fair donation to keep it running, then shop and eat local in Miller while you're here. This comes from several reputable camping listings rather than an official city page, and we have not visited, so confirm the current rules with the City of Miller before you go, be self-contained, and be a good guest so this stop stays open to travelers.

How it was placed
Source: reputable community listings all read 2026-07-27 -- Campendium (maps.campendium.com/us/miller-sd/nature/crystal-park-miller-sd--2), campgroundviews.com, allstays, hikercentral -- agree the City of Miller's Crystal Park (300 W 7th St, west side of town) offers FREE/'freewill' (donation-requested) camping. Pull-through sites w/ 20/30-amp electric, water, dump station, restrooms, level gravel + grass, picnic tables. Per a Campendium review: 'The nightly rate for the first three nights is freewill. After that, it's $30 per night' -- and the max stay is 3 days (72 hr), so the whole allowed stay is free/donation. MED -- reputable community listings agree; no City-of-Miller .gov camping page found. Coordinate = OSM 'Crystal Park' relation/20624375 centroid 44.524510,-98.993906 (Nominatim name lookup), corroborated by Nominatim structured geocode of 300 W 7th St -> OSM way/9874283 44.522640,-98.992163 (~0.15 mi, same park). In Miller, Hand County, SD. fee=0, dispersed=0, camp_type NULL, status pending. Ingest 2026-07-27. --- NIGHTSHIFT REVIEW 2026-08-21 (fire 1220, leftover backlog) --- HOLDS UP. Re-read the Campendium listing for Crystal Park, Miller SD this fire; the load-bearing sentence is still verbatim -- 'The nightly rate for the first three nights is "freewill." After that, it's $30 per night' -- and the listing still shows 'Max stay 3', 30-amp service and a dump station. The ingest's logic therefore still holds exactly: because the stay limit is 3 days and the first three nights are freewill, the entire permitted stay is free or donation, and the $30 tier is unreachable. OSM relation 20624375 'Crystal Park' still live (v2) at this coordinate. As at ingest there is no City-of-Miller .gov camping page, so this stays MEDIUM. Donation leads the field_note. APPROVED.
