How it was placed
Glade Creek Campground -- a FREE, first-come primitive campground run by the National Park Service. Drive-in. On the New River at the mouth of Glade Creek. The park also lists Glade Creek as one of the trails with backcountry camping alongside it. COORDINATE: the NPS's own digitized campground point (https://mapservices.nps.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NationalDatasets/NPS_Public_POIs/MapServer/0, read 2026-08-17), MAPMETHOD='Digitized', XYACCURACY='>=1m and <5m', digitized from WV GIS Technical Center leaf-off imagery. Not a geocode, not OpenStreetMap, not field-checked by us. NEAREST TOWN: Piney View, about 7.0 mi away in a straight line. Nearest incorporated place and distance are straight-line, computed against the WV GIS Technical Center municipal point layer (https://services.wvgis.wvu.edu/arcgis/rest/services/Location/wv_cities/MapServer/6, read 2026-08-17). Straight-line, NOT road miles -- the road distance is longer, sometimes much longer, in this terrain. NEW RIVER GORGE CAMPING -- THE RULES THAT APPLY HERE, from the park's own camping page (https://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/camping.htm, read 2026-08-17). FREE: "There are no camping fees at park campgrounds." FIRST COME FIRST SERVED: "Reservations are not available; all sites are first-come, first-serve. In busy months, campgrounds fill quickly and it is recommended to have a back-up plan." PRIMITIVE: "Primitive camping areas have no drinking water, no hookups, no electricity, and limited restroom facilities." DO NOT TREAT THE NEW RIVER, OR ANY CREEK HERE, AS DRINKING WATER -- the park says to bring your own: "Campers are recommended to bring plenty of drinking water, food, and any other necessities with them." STAY LIMIT: "Camping limit of no more than a total of 14 days within a 28-day period within any park campground and camping area." DESIGNATED SITES ONLY: "Camping in a non-designated site or using a walk-in parking lot for RV, camper, or car camping is prohibited." FIRE: "Use existing fire rings for campfires. Burn only dead wood found on the ground. Damaging or cutting live trees or branches for firewood is prohibited." OTHER LIMITS: no more than 2 vehicles and no more than 2 tents (or 1 tent + 1 RV) per site, 8 people and 4 pets per site, quiet hours 10 PM to 6 AM, pets leashed. ACCESS: "All campgrounds are located on maintained gravel or dirt roads in somewhat remote locations... Campgrounds will be several miles from gas stations, grocery stores, or other markets." SWIMMING: the park "strongly discourage[s]" swimming in the New River -- "powerful currents, rocky banks and shoals, and sudden dropoffs." SEASON: the page states no closing date for the primitive campgrounds. NOT VERIFIED either way this fire -- a reviewer should confirm before we imply year-round access. | auto:agency-trust 2026-08-18: state agency GIS record with a source URL and coordinates, confidence not low. Fee value is the agency's own, not field-checked. Not field-verified -- confirm access, road conditions and fire rules before you go.

What we don’t know about Glade Creek Campground
A land record can put you within a few meters of a spot. It cannot tell you any of this — so check it yourself, and treat anything below as the open question it is.
- Road surface & last-mile access
- How many rigs actually fit
- Cell coverage by carrier
- Seasonal & winter access
- Current fire restrictions
- Whether any water here is drinkable
- Shade & wind exposure
- Noise and who else shows up
- Whether a listed EV charger works today, or the road miles to it
