FREE primitive camping at the City of Munfordville's Green River Park & Arboretum (a.k.a. Thelma Stovall Park), on the banks of the Green River in historic downtown Munfordville, KY -- just off I-65 Exit 65 at 101 River Rd, and a handy overnight near Mammoth Cave National Park. It is first-come and 'almost always available,' but you MUST call City Hall (270-524-5701) first to let them know you'll be camping -- they'll ask for your vehicle's make, model, color and plate. Primitive/dry sites (no hookups); the park has drinking water, covered pavilions with grills, a boat ramp, disc golf, playground and walking trails. The town lets travelers camp free hoping you'll stop and shop local. NOTE: the City's own page confirms camping is allowed but does not print a price -- the 'free' comes from recent camper reviews -- so ALWAYS confirm the current rules, any stay limit, and that it is still free when you call City Hall. Unverified by us; we have not visited.

Camping is still confirmed by the operator's own site, and the park is still described as offering 'a spot for overnight camping'. But the booking wording is NEW. It now reads verbatim: 'For nature enthusiasts, we offer primitive camping--just call City Hall to reserve your spot amidst the tranquil surroundings.' What we recorded at ingest was first-come-and-notify (call City Hall to tell them, giving vehicle make/model/colour/plate). That is now RESERVE-IN-ADVANCE. Anyone publishing the old wording would send a traveller to an unreserved site. City Hall (270) 524-5701. The page still prints NO price, so the free flag still rests on The Dyrt reviewers calling it a free spot -- unchanged, medium. Coordinate unchanged (OSM way 583391594 'Thelma Stovall Park').
