Michigan is a small town in Nelson County just off US-2, and its city park campground is free -- the city's own website asks for a free-will offering in the donation box at the campground rather than charging a rate. There are four 30-amp electrical hookups and a separate tenting area with 120-volt power. Be clear on what is NOT there: no sewer hookups and no showers. Sites are first come, first served. The city describes the campground as seasonal. The deal these towns offer is simple: camp free, and they hope you buy fuel, groceries or dinner in town. Drop something real in the donation box -- that is what keeps it free for the next traveler. No stay limit is published, so if you want more than a night or two, call (701) 247-3347 and ask. Town rules change often and we have not visited -- confirm current rules with the city before you go.
