Deboullie Public Land, T15 R9 WELS, Aroostook County -- 21,871 acres of remote ponds and talus-slope mountains. *** NOT A FREE SITE: fee=1. *** The guide is explicit: "Fees are required to access the North Maine Woods. Deboullie Public Land is within the North Maine Woods recreational system so visitors must pass through a checkpoint and pay the required day use or camping fees." The camping itself is BPL first-come, first-served, but you cannot legally reach it without paying North Maine Woods, Inc. at a gate (www.northmainewoods.org -- their tariff was NOT read this fire, so no dollar figure is claimed). These rows are here so a reviewer can decide; they should NOT be shown on a free-camping map without the gate fee stated. Fires only in authorized campsites with fire rings. PROPERTY RE-CHECK: the guide read today still says, verbatim, "Fees are required to access the North Maine Woods." and "Deboullie Public Land is within the North Maine Woods recreational system so visitors must pass through a checkpoint and pay the required day use or camping fees.", and its Fees box says "Day use and camping fees are charged at the North Maine Woods recreational system checkpoints". fee=1 and the fee-camping tag are RIGHT and must stay -- this is not a free camp. Facilities, verbatim: "Deboullie's campsites are primitive. Each authorized site has a fire ring, picnic table, and a nearby privy." COUNT CAVEAT: the guide's facilities list says "30 primitive single-party campsites with privies (23 of which are drive-to) on or near Togue, Denny, Perch, Upper, Pushineer, Deboullie and Gardner Ponds. One group campsite is available on Perch Pond." while the printed coordinate table names only 21 locations -- so this row is a named LOCATION, not a per-pitch count, and the guide does not say which of the 21 are the drive-to ones.
