LEGAL BASIS: 40 Miss Admin Code Part 2 Chapter 1, Rule 1.21, from the COMPILATION 2025-26 WMA Regulations (Rev. 04-2025), downloaded from mdwfp.com and read 2026-08-13. That rule says, verbatim: "Camping is allowed in designated areas only. Camping is limited to 14 consecutive days. Camping equipment may not be left unattended for more than 24 hours. All camping equipment and garbage must be removed before final departure. SEASONAL CLOSURE: hunting seasons (excluding waterfowl) close when the Mississippi River gauge at Vicksburg reads 41.0 ft or higher -- this is Mississippi River backwater and it floods." ACCESS PERMIT, NOT A CAMPING FEE: MDWFP Rule 1.6 requires every user of a WMA on land NOT owned by the U.S. Forest Service to carry an Annual, Individual or Family WMA User Permit -- Resident Annual $15.00, Non-Resident Annual $30.00. Rule 1.21 paragraph 11 reads verbatim: "HIGH WATER: Hunting seasons (excluding waterfowl season) are closed when the Mississippi River gauge at Vicksburg reads 41.0 ft or higher and re-open when the gauge reads 39.0ft or lower. River stages can be obtained from www.mdwfp.com/wma. The earliest daily reading will determine WMA closure for the entire day." Two things the note above got loose: the re-open threshold (39.0 ft) was missing, and the rule closes HUNTING SEASONS -- on its face it does not close camping. Do not tell a reader the campsite shuts at 41 ft; tell them this is Mississippi River backwater that floods and to check the Vicksburg gauge.
