Town of Encampment RV Park (Encampment)
Encampment is a former copper-smelter town of a few hundred people on WY-70 in the Sierra Madre, and the town runs a 9-site RV park at W. Fourth and Winchell that it funds entirely by donation -- there is no posted nightly rate, just donation boxes on site. For a town this size the hookups are genuinely good: 8 of the 9 sites have electricity, 5 have potable water, 3 have a sewer drop, and there is an RV dump and a potable water hose. There is a restroom. There are no showers -- the town says so plainly. Tents are welcome too. It is first come, first served, with a 3-day limit the town says it enforces out of fairness to others, so do not try to settle in. Be straight about what 'free' means here: nobody will hand you a bill, but the park only exists because travelers put money in the box, so put something real in it. WY-70 over Battle Pass is a spectacular and very seasonal road -- it closes with snow, so check it before you route through here in shoulder season. The deal is the usual one: camp cheap, spend in town. Confirm current rules with the town at (307) 327-5501 before you go; we have not visited.
