The land manager lists this site. Someone from the agency inventoried it, so it is a real camp — not a spot we guessed at. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

Likely — The record is good enough to put a pin on, but thin in places. Treat the details as a starting point, not gospel.
How it was placed
Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust, Walls of Jericho Tract, Jackson County -- part of the James D. Martin - Skyline WMA. SOURCE: alabamaforeverwild.com/walls-jericho read 2026-08-16, Camping section, verbatim: "There are two primitive camping areas on the Walls of Jericho hiking trail. The first area is on the north end of the hiking parking lot and has room for six to eight tent sites. The second is located on Hurricane Creek next to Clark Cemetery and has room for eight tent sites. Both locations are free of charge and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fires are allowed but must be extinguished before leaving and all trash must be removed." THIS ROW IS THE FIRST OF THE TWO. COORDINATE CAVEAT: the numbers on this row are ADCNR's OWN published coordinate for the HIKING TRAIL PARKING LOT on AL-79 (the page prints 'N 34.976624 / W -86.080372' under 'Directions to Hiking Trail Parking'), NOT a coordinate for the camping area itself. ADCNR places the camping area 'on the north end of the hiking parking lot', so the tents are within a short walk of this pin, but the pin is the lot. Room for six to eight tents. NO WATER IS CLAIMED -- the same site warns 'the hike to the Walls of Jericho is strenuous and hikers should take plenty of water'; Turkey and Hurricane creeks are NOT a stated potable source. STATEWIDE WMA CAMPING RULE, quoted verbatim from an ADCNR/Forever Wild permit map PDF (Forever Wild Land Trust, Sipsey River Complex South Zone permit map, downloaded from alabamaforeverwild.com and read 2026-08-16): "To camp except in designated areas. Campers using generators must camp in an area designated for generator use. Individuals or groups may camp for a period not to exceed nine (9) days in any thirty (30) day period. Campfires must be extinguished before departing. No warming fires shall be permitted away from camping area." Those clauses sit in the list of PROHIBITED acts, so read them as: camping is legal ONLY in designated areas, and the ceiling is 9 days in any 30. The same document also bans open alcoholic beverages outside a designated camping area, and bans hunting or discharging a firearm/bow within 150 yards of any designated camping area. PERMIT NOTE: ADCNR requires a hunting licence, a WMA licence and a free area map/permit of HUNTERS on these areas. None of the pages read this fire imposes a licence or permit on someone who is only camping, and ADCNR publishes NO per-night camping fee for these sites. Hunting seasons do run here -- check outdooralabama.com for current season dates and wear hunter orange in season. Nearest town: Hytop ~4.9 mi -- STRAIGHT-LINE distance to the nearest OpenStreetMap place=city/town/village, NOT a driving distance; in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and on the Cumberland Plateau the way in is far longer. Ingest 2026-08-16. --- REVIEW 2026-08-20 (nightshift-verified) --- SOURCE RE-FETCHED TODAY: https://alabamaforeverwild.com/walls-jericho. The Camping section still reads, word for word, "There are two primitive camping areas on the Walls of Jericho hiking trail. The first area is on the north end of the hiking parking lot and has room for six to eight tent sites. The second is located on Hurricane Creek next to Clark Cemetery and has room for eight tent sites. Both locations are free of charge and are available on a first-come, first- served basis. Fires are allowed but must be extinguished before leaving and all trash must be removed." THIS ROW IS THE FIRST OF THE TWO. The page still prints the hiking-trail parking coordinate as N 34.976624 / W -86.080372 under "Directions to Hiking Trail Parking" -- identical to this row's lat/lon -- so the coordinate caveat this row already carries is still exactly right: the pin is ADCNR's parking lot, and ADCNR places the camping area at the north end of that lot, a short walk away. The page still warns "the hike to the Walls of Jericho is strenuous and hikers should take plenty of water"; no potable source is claimed here and Turkey and Hurricane creeks are still not one. DUPLICATE CHECK: the nearest other row in the database is 18901, the Hurricane Creek / Clark Cemetery area, 1,304 m away -- that is ADCNR's SECOND area, described separately in the same paragraph, so these are two sites and not one site listed twice. PRIMARY SOURCE RE-FETCHED TODAY: ADCNR's public ArcGIS 'Camping' layer, https://conservationgis.alabama.gov/adcnrweb/rest/services/Activities/MapServer/0 -- still live, still returns exactly 13 points statewide, with the same five named Bartram points and the same eight unnamed ones recorded at discovery. VERDICT: HOLDS UP -> approved.
