CAVEAT -- WEAKER SOURCING THAN THE REST OF THIS BATCH: this campground is present in the Michigan DNR GIS layer (with the coordinate, fee and campsite count recorded above) but it does NOT appear in the DNR's amenity table at https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/camping-and-lodging/state-forest-campgrounds/amenity-table as read 2026-08-17, so its season dates, managing unit and phone could not be cross-checked. I could NOT load a per-site DNR page for this one -- my guessed URL 404'd and michigan.gov then rate-limited me, so absence of a page here is NOT evidence the campground is gone. Michigan has a second, separate Bass Lake State Forest Campground in Luce County, which IS in the amenity table; do not confuse the two. Confirm this campground is currently open before publishing it. DNR DESCRIPTION: Situated on the shore of Bass Lake, this rustic campground offers great opportunities for paddlesports and fishing. Located in Marquette County, 10 miles west of Gwinn. This campground is managed by the Escanaba Field Office. DNR LONGER DESCRIPTION: This rustic campground is located on the east side of Bass Lake. There is a large grassy picnic area with two tables near the water’s edge. There is a large parking area for vehicles and boat trailers near the boat launch. The campsites are situated on a single loop and are heavily shaded. Some campsites have direct access to the water. There are 22 sites for tent, small trailer and large trailer use. Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from a hand-pump well. This is a “carry-in, carry-out” unit. Trash barrels are not provided. Please help keep the campground clean and take camping refuse to dumpsters located at the Gwinn Field Office. The campground is located 10 miles west of Gwinn via M-35 North, Horseshoe Lake Road and West Crooked Lake Lane. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. INDEPENDENT (NON-AGENCY) CORROBORATION OF POSITION: an OpenStreetMap query run this review (Overpass, tourism=camp_site or caravan_site within 900 m of the stored coordinates) returns a camping feature 7 m away named 'Bass Lake State Forest Campground'. OSM is not an authority on fees or opening dates, but it is a source with no connection to the Michigan DNR, and it agrees that a campground physically exists at this location. SINGLE-SOURCE FLAG CLEARED THIS REVIEW: the earlier fire flagged this row as weaker because Bass Lake (Marquette) does not appear in the DNR amenity table -- confirmed today, the live table's only 'Bass Lake State Forest Campground' row is the Luce County one (18 sites, Tahquamenon Falls SP). The Marquette campground is nevertheless current: the DNR publishes https://www.michigan.gov/recsearch/sfcampgroundsa-m/basslakemqt (read 2026-08-17), titled 'Bass Lake State Forest Campground (Marquette County)', which states the 'rustic campground offers 22 campsites for tents and RVs' -- matching the GIS record's 22 -- describes a boat launch and grassy picnic area, warns that it is a 'carry-in, carry-out' campground with no trash barrels (dumpsters are at the Gwinn Field Office), and places it '10 miles west of Gwinn via M-35 North, Horseshoe Lake Road and West Crooked Lake Lane'. OpenStreetMap independently maps a campground 7 m from this row's coordinates. Two DNR publications plus an independent third party now support this row. REVIEW CAVEATS THAT APPLY TO THE WHOLE BATCH: (1) This is a desk verification against agency publications, NOT a field visit -- nobody from this project has stood at this campground. (2) I did NOT verify current-season gate status, road conditions, fire restrictions or burn bans; the earlier fire's 'NOT CHECKED' note about burn permits still stands. (3) The DNR's own 'Campground closing and opening dates' link embedded in its recreation-search records (.../PRD/Rates/StatewideSFCGFacilityandAmenityMatrix.pdf) returned HTTP 404 when I tried it today, so opening/closing dates could only be verified from the amenity table's 'Seasonal closure dates' column, not from that matrix. (4) The potable-water claim remains the DNR's claim about a developed hand-pump well. No natural water at or near this site is claimed to be potable. DECISION: APPROVED. Both DNR datasets still carry this campground today under the same name, at the same coordinates, with the recorded fee, managing unit, county and seasonal-closure entry; the rule text quoted above is still live on the DNR's pages; and it is not a coordinate duplicate of anything published, held or pending. Setting status='approved' -- publish_camps.py remains the only route to 'published'.

On the agency's books. The land manager inventoried this site, so its existence is not in question — current conditions are. Nobody from here has camped it recently.
