Bureau of Land Management lists this as a developed campground. Expect marked sites, a fee station or a reservation, and the usual campground rules. The dispersed-camping freedom of the surrounding forest does not apply inside it. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

Confidence
Likely — The record is good enough to put a pin on, but thin in places. Treat the details as a starting point, not gospel.
How it was placed
BLM fee campground in a semi-alpine setting on Green Mountain, south of Jeffrey City. FEE, BLM's own words: "$20 per night. No reservations first come first serve. $10 per night with Senior Annual Pass, Senior Lifetime Pass, or the Access Pass." STAY LIMIT: BLM's own field, "14". SITES: "18 campsites, fire rings, water, picnic tables, Accessible vault toilets, garbage collection, and can accommodate large recreational vehicles." SEASONAL -- TWO DIFFERENT DATES, BOTH BLM's: "Season of use runs June 1 to October 31. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground is open June 15 - December 1." ACCESS: "From Jeffrey City Wyoming, go east 6.3 miles to Green Mountain Road. Go right, and follow it about 10.5 miles south to the Cotton Wood Campground." [sic] NEAREST TOWN: Jeffrey City, WY. Lander Field Office. Coordinate is BLM's own published facility point from gis.blm.gov/arcgis/rest/services/recreation/BLM_Natl_Recreation_Sites_Facilities (read 2026-08-17), cross-checked against the Geographic Coordinates printed on the site's own blm.gov page. It is a facility pin, not a surveyed campsite. SOURCE: https://www.blm.gov/visit/search-details/202232/1 --- NIGHT-SHIFT REVIEW 2026-08-19 (nightshift-verified) -- APPROVED. Re-fetched https://www.blm.gov/visit/search-details/202232/1 this fire. The page is live and still titled "Cottonwood Campground | Wyoming". The price and the stay limit are unchanged -- still $20 a night, still $10 with a pass, Stay Limit field still "14" -- and the two seasonal dates this row flagged are both still there: "Season of use runs June 1 to October 31. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground is open June 15 - December 1." BLM's printed Geographic Coordinates are still 42.3624, -107.68456, matching this row to the digit. Cross-checked the same day against gis.blm.gov/arcgis/rest/services/recreation/BLM_Natl_Recreation_Sites_Facilities (layer 8, BLM Natl RIDB Facilities Camping). ONE CORRECTION -- BLM HAS REWORDED THE PASS SENTENCE. This row quotes the Fees section as "$20 per night. No reservations first come first serve. $10 per night with Senior Annual Pass, Senior Lifetime Pass, or the Access Pass." As of 2026-08-19 the live page reads "$20 per night. No reservations first come first serve. $10 per night only accepted with America the Beautiful Senior and Access Pass, Golden Age and Access Pass." The money is identical; only the names of the qualifying passes changed. The older wording still survives in BLM's GIS layer 8 record, which is presumably where it was captured from. Use the live wording if this is ever quoted on the public page. Nothing this row claims has changed since it was written.
