- Surface water mapped nearby: USGS maps Frenchman Lake as a perennial lake or pond, ~0.5 mi from the pin (National Hydrography Dataset, data refreshed October 2022). Mapped as perennial is not the same as flowing today. Nobody has checked it for you. Filter or boil anything you drink.
- Ground slope around the pin: about 6.7% — gentle. Measured on USGS's 3DEP elevation model (1 m data here), sampled every 10 metres around the point. That is the hillside, not the ground under your wheels — a graded pullout or a bench a few metres across is too small to show up at that spacing, and nobody has checked this one for you.

That is the FRA/BTS North American Rail Network (data updated Jul 21, 2026), which records that a line is there and what class of track it is. Plumas' Chilcoot page and the Forest Service recreation-sites database both put Chilcoot at 39.8674,-120.1684; our coordinate is 2.83 mi away from both of them and lands 0.043 mi from COTTONWOOD SPRINGS CAMPGROUND, a different Plumas campground. We already publish the real Chilcoot separately. The rate is safe either way: Plumas posts $34 per night peak season (May 23 - Sept 6) and $30 non-peak (Sept 7 - Sept 28) with $5 per extra vehicle at Chilcoot, and recreation.gov listing 232826 posts $34; the Cottonwood Springs page our pin actually sits on posts $34 per night for a single site too (plus group sites at $100 for up to 25 people and $140 for up to 50).
