The cable on his unit runs 150 feet, which is usually all it takes to find enough sky. The Forest Service's own recreation-site record carries a fee flag with an EMPTY fee description (https://apps.fs.usda.gov/arcx/rest/services/EDW/EDW_RecInfraRecreationSites_02/MapServer/0/query?where=objectid%3D2547263&outFields=site_name,fee_description&f=json) , the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache NF has no web page for this dispersed area at any slug we tried, and a 25-mile recreation.gov search around the pin returns nothing. The nearest agency statement is the Alpine Scenic Loop Backway page, and it cuts both ways: "There is no fee for non-stop travel along the Alpine Scenic Loop Backway or use of gravel turnouts not associated with a developed recreation site. If you do stop at a developed site, a recreation pass is required and must be on display in your vehicle while parked," at a Uinta-Wasatch-Cache fee schedule of $10 for 3 days, $20 for 7 days, $60 annual -- per VEHICLE, and covering day use as well as camping. Whether this particular dispersed area counts as a developed recreation site is not stated anywhere we could find, so carry a pass and expect to need it.
