U.S. Forest Service lists this as a developed campground. Expect marked sites, a fee station or a reservation, and the usual campground rules. The dispersed-camping freedom of the surrounding forest does not apply inside it. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

The unit that manages Pole Creek

Stay limits, road closures and fire restrictions at Pole Creek are set by Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, not by the campsite — check there before you go.

Snow, and when this opens

The nearest automatic snow station is Crow Creek at 8,320 ft, about 2 miles away. That is about the height of this camp, so it is a fair proxy. We do not repeat a depth here, because any number we stored would be stale by the time you read it — the station publishes today's.

Confidence
Likely — The record is good enough to put a pin on, but thin in places. Treat the details as a starting point, not gospel.
How it was placed
Developed FEE campground (not free) - review | auto:usfs-fee 2026-08-20: US Forest Service developed campground, agency coordinates, agency states a fee. No dollar amount in the agency record -- expect a charge and confirm the current rate before you go. Not field-verified. | Fee 2026-08-23: no rate published by the agency, and the one record that exists contradicts itself. The Forest Service's recreation-site record for POLE CREEK (objectid 2555897, recreation area Pole Creek Group Campground, placed by the agency at 41.252327 / -105.416520, on our pin) carries a fee-charged flag of Y -- which is why this pin says fee site -- while the fee description on the same record reads: No fees required for this site. That same record shows the site CLOSED. The Medicine Bow-Routt publishes no recreation page for it, it is absent from the forest's own camping index, and a recreation.gov search around these coordinates returns no listing for it -- the nearest, Yellow Pine at 0.33 mi, is a different campground. We have left the fee flag alone rather than call it free on a record that says both things at once. Come prepared to pay. Field check
On the agency's books. The land manager inventoried this site, so its existence is not in question — current conditions are. Nobody from here has camped it recently.

What we don’t know about Pole Creek

A land record can put you within a few meters of a spot. It cannot tell you any of this — so check it yourself, and treat anything below as the open question it is.
