The land manager lists this site. Someone from the agency inventoried it, so it is a real camp — not a spot we guessed at. What changes is conditions — roads, gates, closures, fire rules. Check those with the unit before you commit to the drive.

Camping not stated — The agency's page implies overnight use -- typically by posting a stay limit -- but never actually says camping is allowed. Worth a call to the field office before you commit to it.
How it was placed
FREE primitive campsite in Great Basin National Park, upper Snake Creek Road. CONFIDENCE CAVEAT -- READ THIS: the coordinate and the name are NPS's own, from the NPS Public POIs national dataset (POITYPE='Campsite', UNITCODE='GRBA', read 2026-08-17). But NPS's primitive-campgrounds web page does not individually name the Shoshone sites; it describes 12 free first-come sites along Snake Creek, of which this is very likely one. The free-of-charge claim rests on the park's blanket statement "Primitive campsites at Great Basin National Park are free but do not have water" (nps.gov/grba/planyourvisit/camping.htm) and "These sites are all first-come, first-served and are free of charge" (primitive-campgrounds page). A reviewer should confirm with the park before this ships, and should consider whether the three Shoshone pins ought to be folded into the single Snake Creek row instead. ROAD: high-clearance recommended, RVs and trailers never recommended. STAY LIMIT: "The maximum continuous stay limit at any campsite is 14 days" (nps.gov/grba/planyourvisit/primitive-campgrounds.htm and nps.gov/grba/planyourvisit/backcountry-camping.htm, read 2026-08-17). SEASONAL: the park says "Some campgrounds are closed seasonally due to weather" -- check nps.gov/grba current conditions before driving. NEAREST TOWN: Baker, NV. SOURCE: https://www.nps.gov/grba/planyourvisit/primitive-campgrounds.htm | auto:agency-trust 2026-08-18: state agency GIS record with a source URL and coordinates, confidence not low. Fee value is the agency's own, not field-checked. Not field-verified -- confirm access, road conditions and fire rules before you go.
